Risposta rapida
Tensioner: stability without scratching
A floor-to-ceiling tensioner eliminates wobble by clamping the tree between floor and ceiling. This is critical for tall or multi-level trees where cats leap from platform to platform. The downside is that a tensioner adds no new scratching surface. If your cat's current post is shredded, you will need to replace it separately. Also, tensioners require a solid ceiling and floor and may not fit all room layouts. For renters, installation must be reversible.
Sisal pole vs tensioner: trade-offs
- Sisal pole: Adds a durable scratching surface with ABS core and glued sisal. Available in 5 or 6 inch diameters and lengths up to 20 inches. Does not improve stability. Best when the cat tree is already stable and your cat needs a fresh scratching post.
- Tensioner: Eliminates wobble by clamping the tree between floor and ceiling. No scratching surface added. Requires solid ceiling/floor and reversible installation. Best when the tree wobbles and your cat avoids climbing because of instability.
- Both upgrades together: First stabilize the tree with a tensioner, then replace or add a sisal pole for scratching. This covers both needs but costs more and requires two installation steps. Ideal for tall trees in active multi-cat households.
