Quick answer

Alex Light-Up Cubes are waterproof, light-up cubes that activate in water—perfect for baths, water tables, and sensory bins. This guide shows you how to use them safely and creatively.

Why choose Alex Light-Up Cubes for sensory play?

These cubes are made with 100% recycled plastic, so they're an eco-friendly choice for playtime. Each pack includes four cubes that light up when dropped in water, adding a magical glow that captivates toddlers and preschoolers. They work equally well in a bathtub, a water table, or a dry sensory bin with rice or beans (though they won't light up without water).

One trade-off: the cubes are small (about 1.5 inches each) and could be a choking hazard for children under 3. Always supervise play and store them out of reach when not in use.

How to use Alex Light-Up Cubes in water or sensory bins

  1. Step 1: Activate the cubes in water: Drop the Alex Light-Up Cubes directly into a bathtub, water table, or bowl of water. They will light up within seconds. No batteries or switches needed—the water completes the circuit. Make sure the water is at least 2 inches deep for reliable activation.
  2. Step 2: Use in a dry sensory bin (no glow): Place the cubes in a sensory bin filled with rice, beans, sand, or kinetic sand. They won't light up without water, but they still provide a fun texture and color contrast. For a glow effect, add a small cup of water for dipping. Avoid leaving cubes in dry materials for extended periods—dust can clog the activation points.
  3. Step 3: Clean and store after play: Rinse the cubes with fresh water and pat dry with a towel. Store them in a cool, dry place. Do not put them in a dishwasher or microwave. If the cubes stop lighting up, they may need a gentle wipe of the metal contacts with a dry cloth.
