Quick answer
The Camera Pod is an ultralight, weatherproof Dyneema® shell that lets you carry your camera on your pack strap, not buried inside your bag. This keeps it protected from rain and bumps while staying within arm's reach for quick shots.
Why a dedicated camera case matters on the trail
Stashing a camera loose inside a backpack leaves it vulnerable to scratches and moisture, and you have to stop and unpack every time you want a photo. A padded camera insert adds weight and bulk. The Camera Pod solves both problems by offering a lightweight, weatherproof carry system that attaches externally to your pack.
How to use the Camera Pod
- Attach the Camera Pod to your pack strap: Loop the included carabiners through the daisy chain loops on the Camera Pod and clip them onto your backpack's shoulder strap webbing. Position it high enough that it doesn't swing into your arm while walking. Common mistake: attaching too low causes the pod to swing and hit your hip or arm.
- Insert your camera with lens facing down: Place the camera body-first into the pod so the lens points downward. This keeps the lens protected from rain and dirt. If your camera has a protruding lens, ensure it fits snugly without forcing the zipper. Checkpoint: the pod is not a hard case—avoid overstuffing or using with a telephoto lens that exceeds the pod's depth.
- Secure the drawcord and roll top: Pull the drawcord to cinch the top closed, then roll the top down at least two full turns before clipping the buckle. This creates a waterproof seal even in heavy rain. Common mistake: skipping the roll-top seal leaves the zipper exposed to moisture.
- Access your camera without removing the pod: Unclip the top buckle, unroll the top, and pull the camera out by the lens or body. The pod stays attached to your pack so you can shoot and stow quickly. Checkpoint: practice this motion a few times at home so you can do it one-handed on the trail.
