Quick answer
Rinse your Carter mug after each use and hand wash the lid and gasket regularly. For stubborn stains or odors, use a baking soda paste or diluted vinegar soak.
Why hand washing matters for your Carter
The Carter Move Mug has a ceramic-lined interior that keeps your drink tasting as intended. Dishwasher cycles can degrade the silicone gasket and lid seal over time, which may lead to leaks. Hand washing with mild soap preserves the mug's performance and extends its lifespan.
When to replace parts
The silicone gasket and flip lid are wear items. If you notice leaking or a loose seal after cleaning, it may be time to replace the lid. Fellow sells replacement parts separately, so you don't need to buy a whole new mug.
Diagnosis and care steps
- Symptom: Coffee or tea stains inside the mug: Mix 1 tablespoon baking soda with a little water to form a paste. Apply to the stained area with a soft sponge, let sit for 5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. For stubborn stains, repeat or use a small amount of white vinegar instead of water. Do not use abrasive scrubbers or bleach; they can damage the ceramic lining.
- Symptom: Lingering odors after washing: Fill the mug with a solution of equal parts white vinegar and warm water. Let it soak for 15–20 minutes, then empty and wash with mild soap and warm water. Rinse well to remove any vinegar smell. If odors persist after two soaks, check the lid gasket for trapped residue.
- Symptom: Lid leaks or doesn't seal properly: Remove the silicone gasket from the lid and wash both parts separately with soap and warm water. Dry completely before reassembling. If the gasket is cracked, warped, or no longer fits snugly, replace the lid or gasket. If the lid still leaks after cleaning and reassembly, stop using it and order a replacement lid from Fellow.
