Quick answer
Most Clipper Jet Flame problems come from air in the tank or a dirty jet, not a broken lighter. Purge, refill with quality butane, and clean the jet before assuming the lighter is finished.
Why jet flames behave differently from standard Clippers
A jet flame forces gas through a tiny nozzle at high pressure, so it is far more sensitive to air pockets, impurities, and dust than a standard wick flame. That precision is also why the Clipper Classic Large Jet Flame has an adjustable flame and wind-resistant design, but it means your refill technique and fuel choice matter more.
When the problem is the fuel, not the lighter
Low-quality butane can leave oily residue that clogs the jet. If you have refilled many times without purging, or used a can that is not refined, switch to a cleaner butane before trying any repair. A lighter that sputters only after a fresh refill is often telling you the fuel or filling method is the issue.
Diagnose your Clipper Jet Flame
- Symptom: flame is weak or sputters: Likely cause: air in the tank or low fuel. Corrective action: purge the tank by pressing the refill valve with a small tool until hissing stops, then refill with quality butane and let it sit for a few minutes. If the flame is still weak after a proper purge and refill, stop and check the jet for blockage.
- Symptom: lighter clicks but no flame: Likely cause: clogged jet or dirty ignition. Corrective action: blow compressed air through the jet opening, or gently brush with a soft brush. Do not enlarge the jet with a pin. If cleaning does not restore ignition, the lighter may need replacement rather than further repair.
- Symptom: flame is too large or uneven: Likely cause: flame adjustment set too high or partial blockage. Corrective action: turn the flame adjustment wheel down, then clean the jet as above. If the flame remains erratic after adjustment and cleaning, stop using the lighter and replace it.
- Symptom: gas leaks from the refill valve: Likely cause: worn valve seal or overfilled tank. Corrective action: do not force more gas in. Let the lighter rest in a ventilated area away from heat. If leaking continues, stop using it. A leaking lighter is a safety risk; do not attempt to repair the valve yourself.
