Quick answer
Buy Cloudspire Premium Health Chips if you play often and want sturdier, better-feeling health stacks that hold up to repeated handling. If your group plays occasionally or you already use tokens with covers, the standard set works fine and the upgrade can wait.
What the upgrade actually changes
The Premium Health Chips replace the standard health tokens with a heavier, more polished stack. The catalog describes them as weathered until their polish shines bright, with a custom hard top foil sticker. That means the main differences are feel and durability, not gameplay rules. You still track health the same way, but the chips are designed to provide stability and a strong foundation for your spires. If you often knock over token stacks during play, the added weight and finish can make a practical difference.
When the upgrade is worth it
Frequent players and those who host game nights will get the most value. The chips are built to withstand years of handling, so they resist wear better than standard tokens. If you already own other Chip Theory Games upgrades, these match the premium component style. The catalog price of $17.97 (compared to $29.95) also makes it a lower-risk add-on if you are already ordering something else.
When to skip it
If you play Cloudspire a few times a year, the standard tokens are perfectly functional. The upgrade does not add new content or change how the game plays, so you are paying purely for component quality. Also, if you use token capsules or a storage solution that fits the standard tokens, check that the premium chips will fit before buying. The catalog does not list exact dimensions, so measure your current tokens and compare if space is tight.
Decision rules for your Cloudspire set
- Play frequency: If you play Cloudspire more than once a month, the durability and feel justify the upgrade. If you play less than four times a year, keep the standard tokens.
- Storage check: Measure your current health tokens and compare with the premium chips before buying. The catalog does not list dimensions, so if your insert is tight, confirm fit first. Order only after checking your box or tray space.
- Budget priority: If you are choosing between this upgrade and a gameplay expansion, pick the expansion first. The chips improve feel, not content.
- Collection consistency: If you already own other Chip Theory Games premium chips, these match that style and are an easy yes. If this is your first upgrade, start with the chips you handle most.
