Quick answer
Choose the Custom North if you want a fully personalized configuration from the ground up; choose the All-new MG-1 Intel Edition if you prefer a strong starting point with room to customize at a lower entry price.
Configuration philosophy: full customization vs. curated starting point
The Custom North is built for buyers who want every component chosen to their exact specs—from case and cooling to storage and GPU. It's a blank canvas with MAINGEAR's build expertise. The All-new MG-1 Intel Edition, on the other hand, ships in a Standard configuration, meaning you get a proven, balanced setup out of the box, with options to tailor it further during ordering.
Price and value trade-off
The All-new MG-1 Intel Edition starts at a catalog price of USD 2,007.75 (compared to USD 2,677.00), making it the more budget-friendly entry point into a MAINGEAR custom build. The Custom North starts at USD 2,715.92 (compared to USD 3,994.00), reflecting its fully customizable nature and higher baseline component flexibility. Your choice depends on whether you value immediate savings or prefer to invest in a build that's uniquely yours from the start.
Trade-offs to consider
- Build control: Custom North lets you choose every component from the start; All-new MG-1 starts with a Standard config that you can still modify.
- Entry price: All-new MG-1 costs about $700 less at base price, making it easier to get a MAINGEAR custom PC on a tighter budget.
- Review confidence: Custom North has 21 reviews with a 4.86 rating, giving you social proof of its quality; All-new MG-1 is newer with less public feedback. If verified community feedback matters, the Custom North offers more data points.
- Future upgrade path: Both are custom PCs, but the All-new MG-1's Standard configuration may limit some early choices that the Custom North's fully bespoke process avoids. For maximum long-term flexibility, the Custom North's personalized build may accommodate future upgrades more smoothly.
