Quick answer
Open Farm's Epic Blend Salmon & Superfood Dry Dog Food is a high-protein, nutrient-dense option for dogs that need a superfood boost, but it may not suit every budget or dietary need.
Why texture and processing matter
This food combines oven-baked kibble with air-dried salmon morsels and whitefish pieces. The dual texture can appeal to picky eaters who enjoy variety, but the air-dried pieces are more fragile and may break into smaller bits during shipping or handling.
If your dog prefers uniform kibble or you store food in bulk, consider whether the mixed texture will hold up in your routine.
Superfood ingredients: benefits and limitations
The formula includes over 10 superfoods rich in antioxidants, which can support immune health and coat condition. However, the specific superfoods are not individually listed in the catalog facts, so if your dog has known allergies or sensitivities, you may need to contact the manufacturer for a full ingredient list.
Decision rules for choosing Epic Blend Salmon & Superfood
- Check your dog's protein needs: This food is high in protein from salmon and whitefish. If your dog is a working breed, highly active, or needs muscle maintenance, this formula is a strong match. For dogs with kidney issues or low-protein dietary requirements, look for a lower-protein option. Consult your vet if your dog has a medical condition that limits protein intake.
- Assess texture preference: The mix of oven-baked kibble and air-dried morsels adds variety. If your dog is a gulper or has dental issues, the air-dried pieces may be harder to chew or may crumble. For dogs who love crunch and variety, this is a plus. Try a small bag first to see how your dog handles the texture.
- Consider the price point: At a catalog price of USD 24.41 (compared to USD 32.99), this food offers a discount from the reference price. It is still a premium product. If your budget is tight, compare cost per serving with other high-protein dry foods. Look for subscription or bulk discounts to lower the per-bag cost.
