The real differences: material, weight, and finish

Both the ESCO-T5 and ESCO-Ti share the same 40mm barrel-shaped upper portion, gently domed top, and tapered bottom, so the hand position is consistent. The choice comes down to material and finish: the ESCO-T5 uses 6061-T6 aluminum with a satin black anodized finish, while the ESCO-Ti uses 6AL4V titanium with a hand-brushed, burnt finish that fades from gold to purple to blue. That material change affects weight and how the knob handles temperature.

The ESCO-T5 weighs approximately 185 grams, which ACUiTY describes as mid-weight—enough mass for a good shift feel without masking gearbox feedback. The ESCO-Ti is heavier at approximately 310 grams, which ACUiTY says provides a more weighted feel. Titanium also has 95% lower thermal conductivity and 40% lower heat capacity than aluminum, making the ESCO-Ti more forgiving in harsh temperatures. These are the core trade-offs: the T5 is lighter and less expensive, while the Ti is heavier and more thermally stable.

Specifications side by side

  • Material: ESCO-T5: 6061-T6 aluminum. ESCO-Ti: 6AL4V titanium.
  • Weight: ESCO-T5: approximately 185 grams. ESCO-Ti: approximately 310 grams.
  • Dimensions: Both: 40mm diameter, 70mm height.
  • Finish: ESCO-T5: satin black anodized. ESCO-Ti: burnt brushed titanium (gold to purple to blue).
  • Gear pattern: ESCO-T5: laser-etched 5-speed Honda/Acura pattern. ESCO-Ti: laser-etched 6-speed Honda/Acura pattern in gold.
  • Thread: Both: M10x1.5, fitting all Hondas and Acuras with manual transmissions.
  • Included hardware: ESCO-T5: stainless steel hex nut. ESCO-Ti: stainless steel flange nut (not needed with OEM or ACUiTY 1924 shift boot collar).
  • Care: ESCO-T5: no specific care instructions supplied. ESCO-Ti: avoid abrasive materials and rings; clean with microfiber cloth and rubbing alcohol.

ESCO-T5: lightweight aluminum with a durable satin finish

ESCO-Ti: weighted titanium with a hand-finished burnt look

  • ESCO-Ti Shift Knob in Burnt Titanium Finish (M10X1.5): Approximately 310 grams with a 40mm diameter and 70mm height. The extra mass gives a more weighted, solid shift feel without masking feedback, according to ACUiTY.

ESCO-Ti Shift Knob in Burnt Titanium Finish (M10X1.5)

ESCO-Ti Shift Knob in Burnt Titanium Finish (M10X1.5)

  • ESCO-Ti Shift Knob in Burnt Titanium Finish (M10X1.5): Titanium is 65% denser, has 95% lower thermal conductivity, and has 40% lower heat capacity when compared to aluminum, making Titanium knobs more forgiving in climates with harsh temperatures. If you park outdoors in hot or cold weather, the ESCO-Ti will be less extreme to touch than an aluminum knob.

  • ESCO-Ti Shift Knob in Burnt Titanium Finish (M10X1.5): Laser-etched, 6-speed, Honda/Acura gear pattern in a beautiful gold color with the ACUiTY logo patterned around the base in a burnt blue color. The 6-speed pattern specifically suits 6-speed manual Hondas and Acuras, and the detailed etching adds a custom look.

Finish care: satin black vs burnt titanium

The satin black anodized finish on the ESCO-T5 is designed to be durable and requires no special care beyond normal cleaning; ACUiTY does not supply specific care instructions for it. The burnt titanium finish on the ESCO-Ti is more delicate: ACUiTY advises avoiding use when your hands are excessively rough or have abrasive materials like sand or dirt, and avoiding rings or similar jewelry that may scratch the finish. For routine cleaning, use a microfiber cloth and household rubbing alcohol to remove oil and dirt and restore the finish's vibrance.

If the burnt finish is ever damaged, ACUiTY may be able to refinish the knob at a lower cost than replacing it—contact them for details. This care difference is worth weighing if you want a knob you never have to think about versus one that rewards a little attention.

Shift boot fitment: the detail that trips up many buyers

Both knobs thread onto M10x1.5 shifters, which covers all Hondas and Acuras with manual transmissions. However, on many Hondas and Acuras made after 2010, the shift boot clips to the underside of the shift knob. If your boot clips to a nut, your existing boot and nut should work with either knob. If it clips directly to the knob itself, you will need additional parts to prevent the boot from sagging after installation. ACUiTY offers five shift boot collars (1924-K1, 1924-K2, 1924-K4, 1924-K5, and 1924-K6) to solve this, and they also work on older vehicles where the boot didn't mate to the knob, for a more modern, finished look.

The ESCO-Ti includes a stainless steel flange nut, but ACUiTY notes that if you are using the OEM shift boot collar or one of ACUiTY's 1924 shift boot collars, you will not need to use this flange nut during installation. The ESCO-T5 includes a stainless steel hex nut. In both cases, check your boot attachment before ordering so you know whether to add a collar.

Which one fits your build?

Choose the ESCO-T5 if you have a 5-speed Honda/Acura, prefer a lighter knob that preserves maximum gearbox feedback, want a low-maintenance satin black finish, or are budget-conscious. Choose the ESCO-Ti if you have a 6-speed, want a heavier, more weighted shift feel, drive in harsh temperatures, and appreciate a hand-finished burnt titanium look—and you're willing to follow the extra care instructions. Both share the same comfortable ESCO shape, so your hand will feel at home either way.
