Quick Answer
The Fenix CP50R is a professional work lantern that delivers up to 5500 lumens and a 450-meter beam, making it ideal for high-risk jobsites and roadside emergencies. Its triangular design and combined flood/spot modes set it apart from typical lanterns.
Why the triangular design matters
The CP50R's triangular shape isn't just for looks. It mimics a warning sign, which increases visibility and safety in hazardous environments. This design also allows the lantern to be positioned stably on flat surfaces or hung in various orientations, adapting to different work scenarios.
Trade-offs to consider
With such high output, the CP50R is heavier and bulkier than typical camping lanterns. It's designed for professional use rather than backpacking. Battery life will vary significantly depending on the brightness mode selected, so plan accordingly for extended tasks.
Fenix CP50R FAQ
What are the main lighting modes?
The CP50R includes an ultra-bright floodlight mode, a spotlight mode, and a combined mode for maximum output. Use floodlight for wide-area illumination, spotlight for distant targeting, and combined when you need both.
How far can the beam reach?
The spotlight throws up to 1476ft (450m), which is suitable for searching across large distances or signaling in emergencies.
Is it suitable for roadside emergencies?
Yes, the triangular warning-sign design and high output make it effective for increasing visibility and safety at roadside scenes. Always position the lantern to maximize visibility without blinding oncoming traffic.
Can it be used indoors?
Yes, the floodlight mode provides broad, even illumination for indoor work areas, though the high output may be overpowering in small spaces. Use lower modes or adjust positioning for close-range tasks.
