Quick answer
For ground-level fantasy football on a frozen lake, choose the Mats by Mars Frozen Lake mat. For aerial sci-fi battles over an icey wasteland, the TT COMBAT Icey mat is the better fit.
Scale and perspective matter
The Frozen Lake mat is designed for Fantasy Football, a game played at ground level with miniatures on a pitch. The Icey mat, by contrast, is built for Dropfleet Commander, where ships maneuver in an aerial dogfight over alien terrain. This difference in perspective influences everything from the artwork's vanishing point to the practical play area.
If your game is primarily ground-based skirmishes or sports, the Frozen Lake's pitch layout gives you clear field boundaries. If you need a vast, open sky for space fleets, the Icey mat's immersive landscape works better.
Price and value
The Frozen Lake mat is priced at $14.34 (compared to $23.50), making it an affordable option for a dedicated pitch. The Icey mat costs $41.25 (compared to $55.00), reflecting its larger, more detailed design suited for a specialist game system.
Your budget and how often you play a given game should guide your choice. The Frozen Lake mat is a low-cost way to add a thematic surface; the Icey mat is a premium investment for a specific sci-fi experience.
