Quick answer
The Internal BlueRetro Adapter V3 for GameCube installs without soldering or shell cutting. Open your console, plug the adapter into the controller port board, close it up, and pair your Bluetooth controller.
Why choose the V3 version
The V3 revision uses fully 3D-printed controller ports to keep the price stable despite rising part costs. This design change means the ports no longer detect controllers by their electrical signature — but since you're using Bluetooth, that feature isn't needed for wireless play.
Because the adapter is internal, you won't have a dongle sticking out of the front. It keeps the original look of your GameCube while adding modern wireless support.
Installation steps
- Open the GameCube shell: Remove the screws on the bottom of the console. Lift the top shell carefully — the fan cable is still attached. Unplug the fan connector from the motherboard to separate the shell completely. Keep track of which screw goes where; the longer screws are for the outer edge.
- Remove the original controller port board: Unscrew the metal bracket holding the controller port PCB. Gently lift the board and disconnect the ribbon cable from the motherboard. Set the original board aside. The ribbon cable is delicate — pull by the connector, not the wires.
- Install the BlueRetro adapter: Plug the adapter's ribbon cable into the same motherboard connector. Seat the adapter into the metal bracket and screw it down. The 3D-printed ports should align with the front openings. Make sure the ribbon cable is fully inserted and the latch is closed before tightening screws.
- Reassemble and test: Reconnect the fan, close the shell, and replace all screws. Power on the console. The adapter's LED should light up. Put your Bluetooth controller into pairing mode — the adapter will detect it automatically. If the controller doesn't pair, power cycle the console and try again. Some controllers need to be set to Nintendo Switch mode.
