Quick answer
If water drips or the hose feels loose at the shut-off clamp on your MSR GravityWorks or AutoFlow system, replace the clamp. The GravityWorks / AutoFlow Clamp is a direct replacement that restores a secure, controllable connection without replacing the whole filter.
Why the clamp is the usual suspect
The shut-off clamp is the part that pinches the tubing to control flow. Over time, repeated clamping and unclamping can wear the clamp or distort the tubing right where it grips, leading to a slow leak or a connection that slips. Because the clamp is a simple, low-cost part, it’s worth checking before you assume the filter itself is failing.
When a new clamp won’t solve it
If the tubing is cracked, stretched, or permanently deformed at the clamp point, a new clamp alone may not stop the leak. Inspect the hose carefully: any split or soft spot means you need to address the tubing as well. Also check that the leak isn’t coming from a damaged filter housing or a worn O-ring elsewhere in the system—those require different parts.
Diagnose and fix your clamp connection
- Symptom: Water drips from the clamp area, or the hose slips out of the clamp during filtering.
- Likely cause: The clamp is worn, bent, or no longer pinches the tubing firmly. Tubing may also be deformed at the clamp point.
- Corrective action: Replace the clamp with the GravityWorks / AutoFlow Clamp. If the tubing is cracked or stretched, replace that section of hose as well. After replacement, test with clean water before your next trip.
- When to stop or choose another option: If the leak continues after a new clamp and hose inspection, the issue may be in the filter housing or connections—contact MSR support or consider a full system check.
