How to Choose a Cafetiere or Filter Selection Pack

Quick answer

Choose a selection pack that matches your main brewing method: cafetiere, filter, or bean-to-cup. If you avoid caffeine, pick the decaf pack. Each contains six varieties roasted for that specific brewer.

Why match the pack to your brewer?

Coffee ground for a cafetiere is coarser than filter coffee, and bean-to-cup machines need a fine, consistent grind to extract properly. Using the wrong grind can lead to over-extraction, bitter flavours, or clogged equipment. A selection pack matched to your brewer removes the guesswork and lets you taste each coffee as intended.

Grind or whole beans?

All selection packs are available as ground or whole beans. If you have a grinder, whole beans preserve freshness longer and let you adjust grind size for your brewer. If you don't grind at home, choose the pre-ground option that matches your machine. Remember that selection packs don't qualify for Next Working Day delivery, so plan ahead.

Decaf considerations

If you're sensitive to caffeine or want coffee later in the day, a decaf selection pack lets you enjoy a variety without the buzz. Decaf coffees can taste slightly different due to the decaffeination process, so sampling a pack helps you find a decaf you actually like.

Decision rules for picking your pack

If you brew with a cafetiere: Choose the Cafetiere Selection Pack. It includes six varieties ground for the coarse cafetiere grind, so you can enjoy full-bodied coffee without needing a grinder.
If you use a drip filter machine or pour-over: Choose the Filter Selection Pack. It offers six varieties suited to filter brewing, with a grind that works for most drip machines.
If you have a bean-to-cup machine: Choose the Bean-to-Cup Selection Pack. It provides six varieties matched to the machine's requirements, so you can sample different coffees without adjusting settings. Check if your machine needs whole beans or a specific grind; if unsure, select whole beans and grind yourself.
If you prefer decaf: Choose the Decaffeinated Selection Pack. It includes a variety of decaf coffees, letting you find a decaf you enjoy without caffeine. Consider whether you want ground or whole beans; whole beans keep freshness longer.
If you're new to specialty coffee: Any of the packs is a great starting point. Pick the one that matches your brewer, and you'll sample six different coffees to discover your taste preferences. Remember that selection packs are not available for Next Working Day delivery, so order a few days ahead.
