Quick Answer

For hot practice, choose yoga shorts made from breathable, moisture-wicking fabric with a secure, high-waist fit that stays in place during movement.

Why Fabric Matters in Hot Yoga

In hot yoga, your body sweats more, so the fabric of your shorts plays a big role in comfort. Breathable, moisture-wicking materials help pull sweat away from your skin, keeping you drier and less prone to chafing.

Look for shorts labeled as moisture-wicking or made from recycled materials that often have these properties. Avoid heavy cottons that absorb sweat and stay wet, which can cause discomfort and skin irritation.

Fit and Coverage: What to Consider

Yoga shorts come in different lengths and rises. High-waist styles offer more coverage and can feel more secure during inversions and bends. Shorter inseams allow more freedom of movement but may require adjusting.

Consider your body shape and comfort level. Some prefer longer shorts for modesty, while others like a shorter cut for ventilation. The key is finding a fit that doesn't ride up or require constant adjustment.

Steps to Choose Your Hot Yoga Shorts

  1. Check the fabric: Look for breathable, moisture-wicking materials like recycled polyester or nylon blends. Avoid cotton, which traps sweat. If the label doesn't mention moisture-wicking, it's probably not ideal for hot yoga.
  2. Assess the fit: Try shorts that have a wide waistband and a snug but not tight fit. Ensure they stay in place when you bend and stretch. Do a few forward folds and lunges to test for ride-up or digging.
  3. Consider the length: Choose a shorter inseam for more ventilation or a longer one for more coverage. Your comfort and range of motion are key. If you're between sizes, size up for a more relaxed fit that won't restrict movement.
