Quick answer

Pack your Light Bed Bundle by first deflating and rolling the mattress, then stuffing the quilt and pillow into the pack liner, and finally nesting the mattress at the bottom of your pack for optimal weight distribution.

Why packing order matters for a lightweight sleep system

The Light Bed Bundle includes a quilt, sheet, air mattress, pillow, and pack liner. Each piece has a different shape and compressibility, so the order you pack them affects how much space they take and how balanced your load feels. A common mistake is trying to stuff everything into the pack liner at once, which traps air and wastes space.

Packing the mattress first (rolled tight) gives you a stable base. The quilt and pillow can then fill gaps without creating pressure points. This approach also keeps the mattress away from sharp items in your pack.

The pack liner is your waterproof shell, not a stuff sack

The included pack liner is fully welded and waterproof. Use it to line the inside of your backpack, then place all sleep-system components inside it. This keeps everything dry even if your pack gets wet. Do not use the liner as a standalone compression sack—it works best when it conforms to the shape of your pack.

One trade-off: the liner adds a few grams but eliminates the need for a separate dry bag for your sleep system. If you prefer to save every ounce, you can skip the liner and use a trash compactor bag instead, but the liner is purpose-built for this bundle.

How to pack your Light Bed Bundle in 5 steps

  1. Deflate and roll the Flex Air Mattress: Open the valve fully and press out all air. Fold the mattress in thirds lengthwise, then roll tightly from the foot end toward the valve. Secure with the included storage sack or a strap. A common mistake is leaving air in the corners—run your hand along the seams as you roll to push it out. A tight roll saves space and prevents the mattress from shifting in your pack.
  2. Disassemble and stuff the SoftTop Pillow: Separate the three pillow pieces. Stuff each piece loosely into the gaps around the quilt inside the pack liner. Do not fold them flat—they conform better when loosely placed. Checkpoint: avoid overstuffing the pillow pieces into one corner, which creates a hard lump.
  3. Stuff the Light Quilt and Light Sheet into the pack liner: Hold the quilt by the foot end and push it into the liner, then add the sheet. Do not roll the quilt—stuffing it allows it to fill odd-shaped spaces. Common mistake: trying to fold the quilt neatly wastes time and leaves air pockets that take up extra volume. Stuffing, not folding, maximizes space efficiency.
  4. Place the rolled mattress at the bottom of the pack: Insert the rolled mattress vertically against your back panel, then set the pack liner (with quilt, sheet, and pillow) on top. This puts the heaviest item closest to your spine and keeps the mattress from getting punctured by gear above. Checkpoint: if the mattress sticks out above the liner, shift the liner lower. Weight distribution improves carrying comfort on the trail.
  5. Compress the pack liner and close your pack: Twist the top of the liner to expel remaining air, then fold the excess over and clip it shut. Push the liner down to settle the contents before cinching your pack’s compression straps. A common mistake is leaving the liner untwisted—air trapped inside pushes against your pack’s sides, wasting space. Removing air from the liner is the final step to a compact load.
