Quick answer
Use GearPro Utility Straps by wrapping them around your load, threading the buckle, and pulling the strap tight until secure. The cam buckle locks automatically, and a simple lift releases it.
Why the GearPro Utility Strap Works for Everyday Loads
The GearPro Utility Strap uses a cam buckle that grips the webbing automatically as you pull. This makes it faster than a ratchet strap for moderate loads like camping gear, luggage, or boxes—no cranking required. The trade-off is that cam straps are not designed for the extreme tension needed to secure heavy machinery or vehicles; for those jobs, a ratchet strap is safer.
How to Use a GearPro Utility Strap
- 1. Position the strap around your load: Place the strap over the items you want to secure, making sure the buckle sits on top or on an accessible side. The strap should lie flat and not twist. A twisted strap reduces contact area and may slip. Always check for twists before tightening.
- 2. Thread the free end through the buckle: Pass the loose end of the webbing through the cam buckle’s slot, then pull it back through the other side. The buckle’s teeth will grip the webbing when you pull tight. If the strap does not lock, you may have threaded it in the wrong direction. The webbing should exit the buckle on the same side it entered.
- 3. Pull the strap tight: Grasp the free end and pull firmly until the load is snug. The cam will engage and hold the tension automatically. Do not over-tighten—cam straps can damage soft cargo or bend thin frames if pulled too hard. Stop pulling when the load is firmly in place but the webbing is not under extreme strain. If you need more force, switch to a ratchet strap.
- 4. Secure the excess webbing: Fold or roll the leftover strap and fasten it with a rubber band or a gear tie to prevent it from flapping in transit. Loose webbing can catch on obstacles or loosen the strap. An unsecured tail can also whip and damage paint or fabric. Tuck or tie it down before moving.
- 5. Release the strap: To remove, lift the cam buckle’s lever or tab to release the webbing. Pull the free end to slacken the strap, then unhook it from your load. Never yank the strap out from under a load without releasing the cam first—you can damage the buckle or the strap.
