Quick answer
Wash your CDLP merino blend boxer briefs on a cold, gentle machine cycle with a mild detergent, then air dry flat. Avoid fabric softener, hot water, and the dryer to preserve the merino wool and Tencel™ lyocell fibers.
Why merino blend underwear needs special care
Merino wool is naturally soft, breathable, and odor-resistant, but it is also more delicate than cotton. The Tencel™ lyocell in CDLP’s boxer briefs adds a silk-like feel and moisture management, but both fibers can be damaged by heat, agitation, and harsh chemicals. Following a gentle wash routine keeps the fabric from pilling, shrinking, or losing its shape.
Step-by-step wash routine
- 1. Turn the boxer briefs inside out: This protects the outer fabric and reduces friction on the delicate merino fibers. Close any fasteners if present. Turning inside out also helps prevent pilling on the surface.
- 2. Use cold water and a gentle cycle: Set your machine to a cold wash (30°C / 86°F or lower) and choose the delicate or hand-wash cycle. Hot water can shrink merino wool and weaken Tencel™ lyocell. If your machine has a wool or silk program, use that instead of the normal cycle.
- 3. Select a mild detergent: Use a detergent labeled for wool or delicates. Avoid bleach, fabric softener, and enzyme-based stain removers—they can strip the natural lanolin from merino and damage the fibers. A small amount of wool-specific detergent is enough; too much suds can leave residue.
- 4. Wash with similar colors and fabrics: Wash the boxer briefs with other dark or neutral delicates. Avoid washing with heavy items like denim or towels that can cause abrasion. If you wash only one pair, use a mesh laundry bag to reduce agitation.
- 5. Air dry flat, never in the dryer: After the cycle ends, gently reshape the boxer briefs and lay them flat on a clean towel or drying rack. Keep them away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Do not wring or twist. Hanging wet merino can stretch the waistband and legs, so flat drying is essential.
