Quick answer

Choose the COVERT Clear case if you want to show off your iPhone 17 Pro Max's original finish. Choose the Smoke version if you prefer a sleek, darker look that still lets the phone's design show through.

Clear vs. Smoke: What's the real difference?

Both cases are transparent and MagSafe-compatible, so you get the same basic protection and wireless charging convenience. The main difference is how they look on your phone. The Clear version is completely transparent, letting the exact color and finish of your iPhone 17 Pro Max shine through. The Smoke version adds a subtle tint, which can give the phone a more unified, darker appearance.

If you have a black or dark-colored iPhone 17 Pro Max, the Smoke case can blend with the phone's frame and back, creating a seamless look. The Clear case, on the other hand, will make the phone's natural color pop, which is great if you want to show it off.

Both cases are made to protect your phone from everyday drops and scratches, and both have precision cutouts for easy access to buttons and ports. The choice really comes down to personal style and how much you want the case to alter the phone's appearance.

Trade-offs at a glance

  • Show off your phone: Pick the Clear case to let your iPhone 17 Pro Max's original color and design be the star. If you have a unique color or finish, the Clear case keeps it visible.
  • Blend and conceal: Choose the Smoke case to add a darker tint that can hide fingerprints and smudges better than a fully clear case. The Smoke case may look cleaner over time due to less visible smudges.
  • MagSafe compatibility: Both cases work with MagSafe chargers and accessories, so you won't lose wireless charging convenience with either option. Your MagSafe accessories will work with either case.
