Quick Answer
The BOSS Audio MGR450B is a weatherproof marine receiver with an IPX6 rating, NOAA weather band, and a conformal coated PCB. Follow these steps to install it correctly in your boat.
Why the MGR450B Stands Out for Marine Use
Unlike standard car stereos, the MGR450B is built to handle moisture and dust with an IPX6 rating. Its conformal coated PCB protects internal electronics from corrosion, making it a reliable choice for open boats and damp environments. The included NOAA weather band tuner keeps you informed of changing conditions while on the water.
Installation Steps
- Disconnect the battery: Always disconnect the negative battery terminal before starting any wiring to prevent short circuits or damage. Skipping this step can blow fuses or damage the receiver.
- Prepare the mounting hole: The MGR450B requires a 3-inch (76 mm) cutout diameter. Use a hole saw or jigsaw to create a clean opening, then deburr the edges. A rough edge can prevent the trim bezel from seating properly.
- Connect the wiring harness: Match the color-coded wires from the receiver harness to your boat's existing speaker and power wires. Use crimp connectors or solder and heat shrink for waterproof joints. Loose or exposed connections can cause intermittent audio or corrosion over time.
- Mount the receiver: Slide the receiver into the cutout and secure it with the included mounting sleeve or brackets. Attach the appropriate trim bezel from the two provided options. Overtightening can warp the bezel; snug is sufficient.
- Test the system: Reconnect the battery and power on the receiver. Check AM/FM reception, NOAA weather band, and each speaker channel. Adjust the zero current draw memory to save settings. If audio is distorted, verify speaker impedance matches the 60W × 4 channel output.
