Quick answer
The Moonrakers Metal Upgrade Bundle replaces your plastic tokens with hefty metal versions, including ship tokens, faction reputation tokens, and IOsphere tokens. It's a premium cosmetic upgrade for dedicated fans who want a more tactile, durable game experience.
What the bundle includes (and what it doesn't)
This bundle covers all the metal upgrades available for Moonrakers Titan Edition or Platinum Edition, plus the Binding Ties, Nomad, and Overload expansions. You get 2x metal ship tokens, Binding Ties metal faction rep tokens, and Overload metal IOsphere tokens. What you don't get: any cards, boards, or rulebooks. This is purely a component upgrade, not new content.
Why consider metal components?
Metal tokens feel heavier and more satisfying to handle than plastic or cardboard. They're also less likely to chip or wear over time, which matters if you play Moonrakers frequently. The trade-off is cost: at $75.87 (down from $114.96), it's a significant investment for a cosmetic change. If you're budget-conscious or don't mind plastic, you may prefer to spend elsewhere.
Decision rules
- You already own the Titan or Platinum Edition plus expansions: This bundle is designed to upgrade exactly those versions. If you have the standard edition, check compatibility first.
- You value tactile and visual quality: Metal tokens add weight and a premium feel that plastic can't match. If you enjoy the sensory experience of board gaming, this is a solid upgrade.
- Your budget allows a $75+ cosmetic upgrade: This is not a gameplay expansion; it changes nothing about rules or strategy. If you're happy with the plastic tokens, you can skip this without missing out. Consider whether you'd rather invest that money in a new game or expansion instead.
