Quick Answer
If you're chasing the dark allure of Mega Darkrai ex or the electric power of Mega Zeraora ex, the Pokemon TCG Mega Evolution-Pitch Black Booster Box delivers 36 packs of the latest expansion. It's a solid buy for collectors and players who want a full set experience, but casual fans might prefer a smaller entry point.
Why This Booster Box Stands Out
The Mega Evolution-Pitch Black set leans into a shadowy theme, featuring Mega Darkrai ex as the flagship card. The artwork and mechanics revolve around darkness and mystery, making it a thematic departure from brighter sets. If you enjoy cards with a darker aesthetic or want to build a deck around Darkrai, this set has clear appeal.
Beyond the star, the set includes Mega Zeraora ex, Mega Chandelure ex, and Mega Excadrill ex, offering a mix of types and playstyles. That variety means opening a booster box gives you a broad sample of the set, which is useful for deck building or completing a collection.
What's in the Box: 36 Packs of Potential
Each booster display box contains 36 booster packs, which is the standard for Pokemon TCG booster boxes. This gives you a substantial number of cards to work with, but remember that pulls are random. You might get multiple copies of the same card and miss others entirely.
If you're aiming for a complete set, a single box may not be enough. The set likely has over 100 cards, so you may need multiple boxes or trading to fill gaps. Set a budget and decide whether you're collecting for fun or chasing specific cards.
Decision Rules for Buying This Booster Box
- Goal: Collecting the full set: Plan to buy at least two booster boxes or supplement with singles. One box rarely completes a large set. Check the set list to see how many cards you need beyond the box.
- Goal: Pulling Mega Darkrai ex: If you specifically want Mega Darkrai ex, consider buying singles instead of gambling on packs. Pull rates for ultra-rare cards are low. Compare the cost of a single card versus a booster box before committing.
- Goal: Building a competitive deck: The set includes several ex cards that could be playable. A booster box gives you a good pool of cards, but you may need to trade for specific trainers or energy. Look up the set's top cards and see if they fit your existing deck.
- Budget considerations: At a catalog price of $146.26 (compared to $206.00), this box offers a discount. If you're on a tight budget, consider a booster bundle or single packs instead. Set a spending limit and stick to it, especially if you're new to the hobby.
