Quick answer

To charge your PS4 controllers with the Modular Charge Station, you must use the correct adapters designed for that station. This guide walks you through the setup and common mistakes to avoid.

Why adapter compatibility matters

The Modular Charge Station for PS4 uses a specific adapter design. These adapters are not interchangeable with other charging bases, such as the Charge Base for PS4 or Charge Base for PS3. Using the wrong adapter can prevent charging or even damage the connector.

Before starting, confirm that your charge station is the Modular Charge Station (Item #83217). The adapters are only compatible with this model. If you have a different base, you'll need a different adapter pack.

Setup steps

  1. Check your charge station model: Verify that your station is the Modular Charge Station for PS4 (Item #83217). These adapters do not work with Charge Base for PS4 or Charge Base for PS3. Check the model number on your station before buying or using adapters.
  2. Insert the adapter into the controller: Align the Micro-USB connector with the charging port on your PS4 controller and push gently until it clicks into place. Do not force it; if it resists, check alignment. If the adapter doesn't fit easily, stop and verify you have the correct adapter for your controller model.
  3. Place the controller on the station: Set the controller onto the Modular Charge Station, ensuring the adapter contacts align with the station's charging pins. The controller should sit flat and stable. A loose fit usually means the controller isn't seated properly—adjust until it rests securely.
  4. Confirm charging: Check the station's LED indicator to confirm charging has started. If the light doesn't come on, reseat the controller or try a different adapter. If charging still fails, test with another controller to isolate the issue.
