The 21700 battery has become the gold standard for high-drain tactical lights and EDC gear, offering a sweet spot between capacity and size. But a battery is only as good as its charging solution and carry method. Enter the NEW 21700 USB-C battery and Link Case combo—a system designed to keep you powered and organized. We spent two weeks testing this setup in real-world conditions, from daily carry to range sessions.
In this review, we break down the battery's performance, the convenience of USB-C charging, and how the Link Case enhances your loadout. We also compare it to older 18650 setups and highlight why this combo is worth considering for anyone who relies on rechargeable power.
Battery Performance and Charging Speed
The NEW 21700 USB-C battery delivers a nominal voltage of 3.6V and a capacity of 5000mAh, which is a significant upgrade over standard 18650 cells. In our runtime tests, it powered a 1000-lumen flashlight for over two hours on a single charge, maintaining consistent output without noticeable sag. This makes it ideal for extended patrols or emergency situations where reliable light is non-negotiable.
The USB-C port is a game-changer. Unlike older micro-USB batteries, this one supports fast charging and can be topped up from any modern charger. We measured a full charge time of about 2.5 hours using a 2A USB-C wall adapter, which is impressive for a cell of this size. The built-in protection circuitry also prevents overcharging, overheating, and short circuits, adding a layer of safety that's crucial for daily carry.
- Capacity: 5000mAh, 3.6V nominal
- Fast charging via USB-C (up to 2A input)
- Built-in protection: overcharge, over-discharge, short circuit
The Link Case: Carry and Organization
The Link Case is more than just a battery holder—it's a modular storage solution that fits seamlessly into your EDC. The case is made of rugged polymer with a secure latch, and it can hold the 21700 battery along with a few small accessories like spare batteries or a USB-C cable. We found it perfect for keeping your power source protected in a backpack or duty bag.
What sets the Link Case apart is its compatibility with other modular systems. You can attach it to MOLLE webbing or use the built-in clip to secure it to a belt or pocket. This makes it a versatile addition to any tactical setup. We also appreciated the clear indicator window that shows the battery's charge level without opening the case—a small but thoughtful touch.
- Rugged polymer construction with secure latch
- MOLLE-compatible and includes a belt clip
- Clear window to check battery charge status
Real-World Testing and Compatibility
We tested the combo with several high-drain devices, including the NEW Sentry-C flashlight and a popular 21700-powered light from another brand. The battery performed flawlessly in both, delivering full brightness without tripping protection. The USB-C charging port also worked with a variety of cables, including those from laptops and smartphones, which adds convenience.

One thing to note: the battery's flat-top design means it's not compatible with devices that require button-top cells. However, for most modern tactical lights, this is a non-issue. The Link Case, on the other hand, is universal—it fits any 21700 battery, so you can mix and match brands if needed. We also paired it with the Nexus T Baton Clip (T Series) to create a compact carry setup, and the combination worked great on a duty belt.
Nexus T Baton Clip (T Series)
- Compatible with most 21700 flashlights and devices
- Flat-top design; check device compatibility
- Link Case fits any 21700 cell
Value and Verdict
Priced competitively, the NEW 21700 USB-C battery and Link Case combo offers excellent value for anyone invested in rechargeable power. The battery alone would cost you a premium from other brands, but this combo includes a durable case that enhances portability. If you're upgrading from 18650, the jump in capacity is noticeable, and the USB-C charging eliminates the need for a separate charger.
For tactical professionals and EDC enthusiasts, this combo is a no-brainer. It simplifies your power management and ensures you're never left in the dark. We highly recommend it for use with high-drain lights like the NEW Sentry-C or any other 21700 device in your arsenal.
