Quick Answer
For Shadowrun's 35th anniversary, focus on items that enhance your game experience or add flair to your collection. The Shadowrun: Program Deck is a must-have for deckers, while the BattleTech mugs offer a stylish crossover for fans of both universes. Skip overpriced novelties and invest in functional merch.
Shadowrun: Program Deck
Shadowrun turns 35 in 2026, and Catalyst Game Labs has released a wave of anniversary merch that ranges from practical game aids to decorative collectibles. With so many options, it's easy to overspend on items that look cool but gather dust. This guide cuts through the noise to help you decide what's genuinely worth adding to your collection.
We've evaluated the current lineup based on utility, design, and value. Whether you're a seasoned shadowrunner or a newcomer, you'll find clear recommendations on what to buy—and what to skip.
What Makes Anniversary Merch Worth It?
Anniversary merchandise should celebrate the franchise while serving a purpose. A mug you use daily or a deck that improves your gameplay is worth more than a static display piece. When evaluating items, consider how often you'll actually use them and whether they enhance your gaming sessions or your shelf.
Trade-offs exist: some items are purely decorative, while others are functional. For example, a canvas print adds ambiance but doesn't help you run a better game. Conversely, a program deck is a practical tool that sees regular use. Balance your collection with items that bring joy and utility.
Functional Game Aids: The Real Gems
Game aids are often the most valuable anniversary merch because they directly impact your play. The Shadowrun: Program Deck is a prime example. It contains info on more than 40 programs, including basic programs, hacking programs, and commlink apps, making it an essential reference for deckers in Shadowrun, Sixth World.
At a price point that's accessible, this deck saves you time flipping through rulebooks and adds depth to your hacking encounters. It's a small investment that pays off in every session.
Stylish But Practical: Mugs and More
For fans who want to show off their allegiance, mugs like the BattleTech: Mug: Kell Hounds and BattleTech: Mug: Northwind Highlanders offer a perfect blend of form and function. These ceramic mugs are designed for daily use, letting you enjoy your coffee while celebrating the Inner Sphere.
While these are technically BattleTech items, they're a natural fit for Shadowrun fans who appreciate the shared universe's aesthetic. They also make great gifts for fellow gamers. However, if you're strictly a Shadowrun collector, you might prefer items that reference the Sixth World directly.
Decision Rules for Anniversary Purchases
- Rule 1: Prioritize Function: Ask yourself: Will I use this in my next game or daily life? If yes, it's likely worth the nuyen. Game aids like the Program Deck offer immediate value. Functional items provide lasting satisfaction.
- Rule 2: Consider Display Value: If you're a collector who enjoys decorating your gaming space, items like the Shadowrun: Fine Art: Risk It All canvas print can be a centerpiece. However, they don't enhance gameplay. Display pieces are great if you have the space and budget.
- Rule 3: Check for Crossover Appeal: BattleTech mugs can appeal to Shadowrun fans due to the shared universe. If you're a fan of both, they're a smart purchase. If not, you might prefer Shadowrun-specific merch. Crossover items are versatile gifts and additions.
