Quick Answer
Check the packaging for the official Bandai or licensed distributor hologram, inspect the scroll's print quality and material feel, and compare the price—if it's far below the standard retail, it's likely a bootleg.
Why Authenticity Matters
An official licensed Naruto Shippuden Scroll Keychain blind box, like the one sold at OtakuPop, is produced under license from the rights holders. This means the artwork, colors, and materials are approved and consistent with the anime. Bootlegs often use lower-quality printing, cheaper plastic, and may have inaccurate scene details or faded colors.
The price difference is another clue. The official keychain is typically priced around USD 5.10, while bootlegs can be found for a dollar or two less. However, price alone isn't definitive—some bootleg sellers price high to appear legitimate.
Diagnosis Guide: Official vs. Bootleg
- Symptom: The packaging has no holographic sticker, the Bandai logo is missing or poorly printed, or the box feels flimsy.
- Likely Cause: Counterfeit manufacturers often skip licensing holograms and use cheaper cardstock to cut costs.
- Corrective Action: Compare the packaging with official product images on the store page. Look for the official Bandai or distributor hologram. If you already bought it, check the scroll's print clarity and the keychain's metal ring quality. If the print is blurry or the metal ring feels rough, it's a bootleg.
- Stop or Choose Another Option: If you suspect a bootleg, stop using it (the metal may irritate skin) and request a refund from the seller. For a guaranteed authentic item, purchase from a trusted retailer like OtakuPop.
