Quick answer
Strider Disc Wheel Covers are easy to install and help protect your child's balance bike wheels from dirt and debris while adding a fun, customizable look.
Why add disc wheel covers to a balance bike?
Disc wheel covers serve two main purposes: they keep mud, grass, and small stones out of the wheel spokes, which can reduce wear on the bike, and they give your child a blank canvas to decorate with markers, stickers, or paint. The covers are made from a durable plastic that fits snugly over the Strider Ultralight Wheel, so they stay in place during rides.
Because the covers are compatible only with Strider 12 Balance Bikes that use the Ultralight Wheel, you cannot use them on older Strider models with standard wheels or on the Strider 14x. If you have a newer 12-inch Strider, you are good to go.
How to install Strider Disc Wheel Covers
- 1. Gather supplies: You will need the two disc wheel covers, a clean cloth, and optionally, art supplies like markers or stickers if you plan to decorate them before installation. Skip decorating if you want a plain look; you can always add art later.
- 2. Clean the wheel surface: Wipe down the outer side of each Strider Ultralight Wheel with a dry cloth to remove any dirt or moisture. A clean surface helps the covers snap on securely and prevents scratches. Do not use water or soap; a dry cloth is sufficient and avoids residue.
- 3. Align the cover with the wheel: Hold one disc cover against the outside of a wheel, lining up the center hole with the axle nut. The cover should sit flush against the spokes. If the cover does not sit flat, rotate it slightly; the fit is symmetrical, so any orientation works.
- 4. Snap the cover into place: Press firmly around the edges of the cover until you hear a series of clicks. The cover uses a snap-fit design that grips the wheel rim without tools. If a section does not snap, check that the wheel is an Ultralight model; standard wheels have a different rim profile.
- 5. Repeat for the second wheel: Install the other disc cover on the opposite wheel using the same process. Both covers are identical, so you do not need to worry about left vs. right. Test by gently tugging the cover after installation; it should not move freely.
- 6. Decorate (optional): Let your child personalize the covers with markers, stickers, or paint. Because the covers are removable, you can swap designs anytime without affecting the bike. Avoid permanent paint if you plan to reuse the covers on another bike later.
