Quick answer
Ultra-Blend plus-Liner is a no-mix, light-cured calcium hydroxide liner that protects the pulp during restorative procedures. Apply it in a thin layer directly over the exposed dentin, then cure for 20 seconds.
Why choose a no-mix liner?
Traditional calcium hydroxide liners require mixing two pastes, which can introduce air bubbles or inconsistent consistency. Ultra-Blend plus-Liner comes pre-mixed in a syringe, eliminating mixing errors and saving chair time. The light-cured formulation sets on command, giving you control over placement before curing.
When to use a liner vs. a base
Use Ultra-Blend plus-Liner when you need direct pulp protection in deep cavities. It is not a substitute for a full restorative base. For very deep preparations, apply the liner only over the thinnest dentin or exposed pulp, then place a glass ionomer or composite base over it.
Step-by-step application guide
- 1. Isolate and dry the cavity: Use a rubber dam to keep the field dry. Gently air-dry the preparation—do not desiccate the dentin. A moist dentin surface helps the liner adhere. Over-drying can cause post-operative sensitivity.
- 2. Dispense a small amount: Express a small drop of Ultra-Blend plus-Liner onto a mixing pad or directly into the cavity. A thin layer—about 0.5 mm—is sufficient for pulp protection. Too much liner can weaken the restoration bond.
- 3. Apply with a microbrush: Use a clean microbrush to spread the liner evenly over the exposed dentin or pulp. Avoid pooling or extending onto enamel margins. Liner on enamel margins can interfere with bonding.
- 4. Light-cure for 20 seconds: Cure with a dental curing light at standard intensity (800–1000 mW/cm²). Hold the light tip 1–2 mm from the liner surface. Rotate the light if the cavity is deep. Incomplete curing can lead to liner washout under the restoration.
- 5. Proceed with restorative material: After curing, place your bonding agent and restorative material as usual. The liner is compatible with composite, glass ionomer, and amalgam. Check the liner is fully set before etching or bonding over it.
