Quick Answer

If your turntable system sounds thin, lacks dynamics, or picks up noise, the ULTRA Phono Interconnect can restore fullness and 3-dimensional space—but only if your phonograph stage and cartridge already resolve detail.

When the Cable Isn't the Problem

A phono cable can't fix a worn stylus, a misaligned cartridge, or a noisy preamp stage. Before swapping interconnects, confirm your turntable's mechanical and electronic health. The ULTRA Phono Interconnect excels at preserving what your cartridge already extracts; it does not add missing information.

System Matching Matters

The ULTRA Phono Interconnect is designed for upgraded premium music systems with a very high quality phonograph set-up. If your system uses entry-level components, the cable's benefits—fuller tonality, limitless dynamics, 3-dimensional space—may be masked by upstream limitations. Pair it with other LIFELIKE Transparent System Companions for the best results.

Diagnosing Your Turntable Signal Issue

  • Symptom: Audible hum or buzz through speakers, especially when volume is raised.
  • Likely Cause: Ground loop or inadequate shielding in the phono cable path. Check turntable ground wire connection first. If the hum persists, a shielded interconnect like the ULTRA Phono Interconnect can help.
  • Corrective Action: Replace existing phono cable with the ULTRA Phono Interconnect, ensuring secure RCA connections. If the hum remains, inspect the phono preamp or power supply. If hum disappears, the cable was the weak link. If not, stop here—the issue is elsewhere.
  • Stop or Choose Another Option: If your cartridge is entry-level or your phono stage lacks adequate gain and loading adjustment, the ULTRA Phono Interconnect's resolution may expose harshness rather than improve sound. In that case, upgrade the cartridge or preamp first. The ULTRA Phono Interconnect rewards a system that already reveals detail—it does not compensate for upstream weaknesses.

Product Facts

  • ULTRA Phono Interconnect: ULTRA Phono Interconnects work well with other LIFELIKE Companions to provide fuller tonality, limitless dynamics, and 3-dimensional space for a closer connection to music. This means the cable is optimized for a complete system approach—using it alone may not deliver the full benefit if other cables or components are mismatched.
