Quick answer
The Unsettled Framework and Planets 001-002 give you the core game system plus two unique planet experiences. This is the recommended starting point for groups that want a cooperative sci-fi game with high replayability and modular depth.
What the Framework provides
The Framework box contains all the basic components you'll use in every session: the rulebook, player boards, dice, tokens, and other shared pieces. It does not include planet-specific cards or tokens. You need at least one planet box to play.
What each Planet box adds
Planets 001 and 002 each hold the cards, tokens, and environmental rules that make that planet's challenges and discoveries unique. They are fully plug-and-play: you can mix them with any Framework, and you can swap planets between sessions without buying extra components.
Trade-offs to consider
The modular design means you can expand gradually, but the initial investment includes both Framework and at least one planet. If your group prefers a single self-contained game, a traditional boxed game might be simpler. Also, the Framework alone cannot be played—it's a foundation, not a standalone product.
How to decide if this starter set is right for you
- Start here if: You want a cooperative game system where you can add new planets over time without buying a whole new game. The Framework + one planet gives you a complete experience.
- Skip if: You prefer a single box with all rules and components included. The modular approach requires an extra purchase (at least one planet) before you can play.
- Planet choice matters: Each planet offers different challenges and themes. Read planet descriptions to match your group's taste—there's no universally best planet. Check planet details before buying to avoid disappointment.
