Quick answer

Set up your Wet Palette Hydro Set by soaking the foam, adding water, and laying a sheet on top. This keeps acrylic paints workable for hours and reduces waste.

Why a wet palette helps your painting

A wet palette keeps your acrylic paints from drying out during long painting sessions. The water reservoir below the sheet slowly hydrates the paint, giving you more time to blend and layer without rushing.

The Wet Palette Hydro Set combines the palette with a refill pack, so you get everything you need in one box. The high-quality materials mean it will hold up to regular use without warping or leaking.

How to set up and use the Wet Palette Hydro Set

  1. Soak the Hydro Foam: Remove the Hydro Foam from the box and submerge it completely in clean water. Gently squeeze it a few times to ensure it absorbs water evenly. Do not wring or twist the foam. A common mistake is using too little water. The foam should feel fully saturated but not dripping when you lift it.
  2. Place the foam in the palette tray: Press the soaked foam into the bottom of the Wet Palette tray. Smooth out any air bubbles or wrinkles so the foam lies flat. If the foam bunches up, trim a small corner to fit perfectly. A flat base prevents uneven paint hydration.
  3. Add a Hydro Sheet: Peel one Hydro Sheet from the stack and lay it on top of the foam. The sheet should rest flat without overlapping the tray edges. Gently press the center outward to remove trapped air. Avoid touching the sheet surface with oily fingers. Use the edges or tweezers to keep it clean.
  4. Pour water onto the sheet: Slowly pour a small amount of clean water onto the center of the sheet. The sheet will turn translucent as water spreads. Stop when the entire sheet looks damp but not flooded. Too much water creates a puddle that can thin your paint. Add water in small increments.
  5. Add your paints: Squeeze or brush small amounts of paint onto the damp sheet. The palette keeps them workable for hours. Mix colors directly on the sheet as needed. Don't overload the sheet with large drops. Thin layers stay moist longer and are easier to mix.
  6. Close the palette when not in use: Snap the lid onto the Wet Palette to seal it between painting sessions. Store it at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. Leaving the lid off overnight dries out the foam and sheet. Always close it to extend the life of your paints.
