Quick answer
The DOD Tequila Bag is designed primarily to store and transport Tequila furniture, but its versatile shape and two size options make it a practical carry bag for day hikes when you need to bring camp chairs, a small table, or extra gear like a blanket and stove.
Why use a Tequila Bag for day hikes?
The Tequila Bag is not a traditional backpack, but its padded design and carry handles make it a solid option for short hikes where you need to bring bulky but lightweight items. It keeps your gear organized and protected from dust and moisture, and the two sizes let you match the bag to your load.
What are the trade-offs?
The Tequila Bag lacks shoulder straps, so it's best for short distances or car-to-campsite walks. It also doesn't have multiple compartments, so you'll want to pack smaller items inside pouches or stuff sacks. For longer day hikes with heavy loads, a dedicated hiking backpack with a hip belt is more comfortable.
Frequently asked questions
Can I fit a Tequila camp chair in the bag?
Yes, the Tequila Bag is specifically sized to hold Tequila furniture, including the folding camp chair. The larger size can also accommodate a chair plus a small table or a blanket.
What else can I carry in a Tequila Bag for a day hike?
Besides furniture, you can pack a lightweight stove, a small cookset, a picnic blanket, extra layers, or a first-aid kit. The bag's padded interior protects fragile items like a portable lantern or a camera. Use stuff sacks for smaller items to keep them organized inside the single compartment.
How do I carry the Tequila Bag on a hike?
The bag has sturdy carry handles, so you can carry it by hand or sling it over one shoulder for short distances. For longer walks, consider attaching a shoulder strap (not included) to the handles or packing it inside a larger backpack. For hikes longer than 1 mile, a shoulder strap or backpack conversion is recommended for comfort.
