Quick answer

Use 64 Audio Remold Tier 1 when your custom IEMs no longer fit comfortably or seal properly, but the drivers and internal components are still working. It is a shell-only recast, not a repair.

Remolding vs. Repair: What's the Difference?

Remold Tier 1 focuses exclusively on the outer shell of your custom IEM. The service takes your existing working internals and places them into a new acrylic shell made from a fresh ear impression. This is ideal when your ears have changed shape due to weight loss, aging, or orthodontic work, and your monitors no longer seal.

Repair, by contrast, addresses non-working components: a dead driver, broken cable connector, or clogged sound bore. If your IEM has an electrical or acoustic fault, you need a repair assessment first. Remolding won't fix a broken driver.

When Remolding Makes Sense

The most common reason to remold is fit degradation. Over time, the custom acrylic shell that once fit perfectly can become loose or cause pressure points. A remold restores the original comfort and isolation without changing the sound signature.

Remolding is also worth considering if you want to update the shell color or finish. 64 Audio's Remold Tier 1 lets you choose a new look while keeping your familiar drivers and crossover.

Cost is another factor. At a catalog price of USD 186.75 (compared to USD 249.00), remolding is significantly less expensive than buying a new pair of custom IEMs. If your current monitors still sound great, this service extends their life.

When to Choose Repair Instead

If your IEM has a dead driver, intermittent sound, or physical damage to the connector, remolding will not help. The Remold Tier 1 service does not replace or repair internal components. In these cases, start with a standard repair evaluation.

Also, if your ear impression is more than a few years old, you may need a new impression before remolding. The service requires a current, accurate impression to ensure the new shell fits properly.

Decision rules: Remold or not?

  • Fit is loose or uncomfortable: If your custom IEMs no longer seal or cause sore spots, remolding will restore comfort and isolation. Schedule a new ear impression before ordering the service.
  • Drivers and sound are working: Remold Tier 1 only recasts the shell. Confirm all drivers produce sound and the cable connector is intact.
  • You want a cosmetic refresh: Choose a new shell color or finish while keeping your existing internals. This is a purely aesthetic upgrade. Check available color options before placing the order.
  • IEM has electrical or acoustic failure: If you hear distortion, no output, or intermittent signal, send the unit for repair assessment instead of remold. Contact support to initiate a repair RMA.
