Quick answer
If your dog shows signs of digestive upset like loose stools, gas, or occasional vomiting, a whitefish and probiotic bundle can help. Open Farm's Whitefish & Probiotic Bundle combines a single-protein whitefish dry food with probiotic chews to support gut balance.
Why whitefish works for sensitive stomachs
Whitefish is a lean, easily digestible protein that is less likely to trigger food sensitivities compared to common proteins like chicken or beef. For dogs with a sensitive stomach, a single novel protein source can reduce the risk of adverse reactions while still providing essential amino acids.
The role of probiotics in daily nutrition
Probiotics are live beneficial bacteria that help maintain a healthy gut microbiome. Adding a probiotic supplement to your dog's routine can improve stool consistency, reduce gas, and support overall immune function. However, probiotics are not a cure-all—they work best when paired with a balanced diet.
Diagnosing your dog's digestive issues
- Symptom: Loose or inconsistent stools, excessive gas, occasional vomiting, or reduced appetite after meals. Keep a food diary for 3-5 days to track patterns.
- Likely cause: Dietary sensitivity to common proteins (chicken, beef) or an imbalance in gut bacteria. Stress, sudden food changes, or low-quality ingredients can also contribute. If symptoms persist beyond a week, consult your veterinarian to rule out infections or chronic conditions.
- Corrective action: Switch to a single novel protein diet like whitefish and introduce a daily probiotic chew. Start with a slow transition: mix 25% new food with 75% old food for 3-4 days, then gradually increase. Expect improvement in stool quality within 5-7 days. If no change occurs, reassess the protein source.
- When to stop or choose another option: If your dog's symptoms worsen or new signs like blood in stool, lethargy, or dehydration appear, stop the new food immediately and contact your vet. This bundle is not suitable for dogs with a confirmed fish allergy or those requiring a prescription diet.
