Quick Answer
Attach a concealment wedge to the back of your IWB holster near the muzzle to tilt the grip into your body, reducing printing. Use the included adhesive or hook-and-loop backing, and test the position before finalizing.
Why a Wedge Helps with Concealment
A holster wedge pushes the muzzle of the gun away from your body, which tilts the grip inward. This reduces the telltale bulge or "printing" of the grip through your cover garment. It also fills the gap between the holster and your body, distributing pressure more evenly for all-day comfort.
Wedges work best on IWB holsters worn appendix or strong-side. They can also be used on certain OWB holsters if you want extra concealment, but the effect is less dramatic because the holster sits farther from your body.
Choosing the Right Wedge Size
Most holster wedges come in small, medium, and large sizes. A larger wedge provides more tilt but can feel bulky. A smaller wedge offers a subtler correction and is better for sub-compact pistols or slim frames.
The T1C Individual Wedges let you try each size separately, so you can find the right fit without committing to a single size. If you're not sure which size you'll like, grab the sizing pack to test different thicknesses.
Note that the T1C 2.25 Inch Wide Wedge is wider than standard wedges. It may not fit on all holsters, especially sub-compact models. Check that your holster has enough flat surface area on the back before ordering.
Step-by-Step Installation
- Step 1: Clean the Holster Back: Wipe the back of your holster with isopropyl alcohol to remove oils, dust, and residue. Let it dry completely. A dirty surface will prevent the adhesive from bonding properly, causing the wedge to shift or fall off.
- Step 2: Position the Wedge Temporarily: Peel the backing off the wedge and press it lightly onto the holster near the muzzle end. Do not press hard yet. Put the holster on and check the concealment in a mirror. If the wedge is too high (near the trigger guard), it may push the grip outward instead of inward. Adjust the position until the grip tucks flat against your body.
- Step 3: Apply Firm Pressure: Once you're happy with the position, press the wedge firmly for 30 seconds. Use a cloth or your thumb to ensure full contact across the adhesive. Applying heat from a hairdryer on low for 10 seconds before pressing can improve the bond on textured Kydex.
- Step 4: Wait Before Use: Let the adhesive cure for at least 24 hours before drawing or reholstering. This allows the bond to reach full strength. If you use the holster immediately, the wedge may slide or detach. Plan ahead to avoid rushing.
- Step 5: Test and Adjust: Wear the holster for a few hours. If the wedge feels too aggressive or not effective enough, peel it off gently and reposition it. Most wedges can be reattached a couple of times before the adhesive loses grip. If you need to reposition more than twice, replace the adhesive strip or order a different wedge size for a permanent fix.
