Quick Answer
The BattleTech BattleMat Fire and Ice Umber Station is a versatile, high-quality neoprene hexmat that works for both lava and glacier settings, ideal for players who want a durable, portable surface for small to medium mech battles.
Why Choose the Fire and Ice Umber Station?
This BattleMat stands out because it depicts a lonely station that can be placed in either a lava or glacier environment, giving you two thematic options from one mat. The neoprene material provides a non-slip surface that lies flat, reducing movement of miniatures and dice during play.
Trade-offs to Consider
While the mat is high-quality, its size may not be suitable for large-scale battles with many units. It is designed for smaller engagements or as part of a larger map when combined with other Fire and Ice mats. Additionally, the theme is specific to fire and ice environments, so it may not fit every campaign setting.
Decision Rules for the Fire and Ice Umber Station
- Terrain Preference: If you enjoy lava or glacier themed battles, this mat offers a ready-made setting. If you prefer urban or forest terrain, consider a different BattleMat.
- Game Size: This mat is ideal for skirmishes or small-scale battles. For large-scale engagements, you may need multiple mats or a larger play surface. Plan to combine with other Fire and Ice mats for bigger games.
- Portability: Neoprene mats are easy to roll up and carry, making this a good choice for gaming at a friend's house or at conventions.
