Quick Answer
The Birdboy: The Forgotten Children Blu-ray from GKIDS offers a poignant post-apocalyptic tale with a high-definition transfer and a combo pack that includes both Blu-ray and DVD. It's a worthwhile addition for fans of thoughtful animated films.
Why This Release Stands Out
Birdboy: The Forgotten Children is not your typical animated feature. It blends dark themes with moments of beauty, making it a unique entry in GKIDS' catalog. The Blu-ray release preserves the film's distinctive art style and emotional depth, which is a key reason to consider adding it to your collection.
The combo pack includes both Blu-ray and DVD discs, offering flexibility for different viewing setups. This is especially useful if you have a mix of players or want to lend the disc without worrying about compatibility.
Trade-offs to Consider
While the film's dark subject matter is a draw for some, it may not suit younger viewers or those expecting a lighthearted animated movie. The story deals with themes of isolation and survival in a post-apocalyptic world, so it's best for mature audiences.
If you're a collector who values extensive bonus features, note that this release focuses on the film itself. The catalog description highlights the narrative and characters, but specific extras are not detailed, so manage your expectations regarding supplemental content.
