Quick answer
Drop the balls into the whale's spout, press down, and watch them pop out of its mouth with lights and sounds. It's a simple cause-and-effect game that encourages your baby to chase and develop gross motor skills.
Why the ball popper works for gross motor development
The Silly Spout Whale Ball Popper is designed to get your baby moving. When the balls pop out, your little one naturally wants to crawl or walk after them, which builds coordination and leg strength. The lights and sounds provide immediate feedback, reinforcing the connection between action and reaction.
One trade-off: the popping action can be quick, so very young babies may need help retrieving the balls. But that also creates a fun turn-taking opportunity for you and your child.
How to use the Bright Starts Silly Spout Whale Ball Popper
- Insert the balls into the spout: Take one of the included balls and drop it into the whale's blowhole opening on top. The ball will sit inside the toy, ready for the next step. Make sure the ball is fully inside the spout; if it sticks, gently push it down.
- Press the whale's spout down: Firmly press the spout (the blowhole) downward. This triggers the internal mechanism, and the ball will pop out of the whale's mouth with lights and sounds. Press all the way down until you hear a click. A partial press may not launch the ball.
- Let your baby chase the ball: After the ball pops out, encourage your baby to crawl or walk toward it. Pick it up and repeat the process to keep the fun going. If your baby loses interest, try varying the direction you face the whale so the ball pops to a different spot.
