Quick answer
To care for your Lord of the Rings notebook cover, gently clean it with a soft, damp cloth, store it away from direct sunlight and moisture, and handle it with clean hands to prevent stains and fading.
Why cover care matters for collector editions
The Lord of the Rings notebook series from Moleskine features unique printed designs, like the Doors of Durin motif on the Der Herr der Ringe Notizbuch XL. These printed covers are more delicate than plain leather, so a little extra attention keeps the artwork looking sharp and prevents peeling or fading over time.
Common mistakes that damage the cover
Using harsh cleaners, alcohol wipes, or soaking the cover can strip the print or cause the soft cover material to warp. Also, storing the notebook in a backpack without a protective sleeve often leads to scuffs from keys or pens.
How to care for your Lord of the Rings notebook cover
- Clean with a soft, damp cloth: Wipe the cover gently with a microfiber cloth slightly dampened with water. Do not use soap, alcohol, or abrasive cleaners, as they can lift the print or damage the soft cover finish. Common mistake: using a wet paper towel or scrub brush that can scratch the printed surface.
- Dry immediately and naturally: After cleaning, pat the cover dry with a separate soft cloth. Let the notebook air dry completely open, away from radiators or direct sunlight. Never use a hair dryer or heater. Checkpoint: moisture left in the spine can cause the pages to warp or the cover to bubble.
- Store flat or upright in a protective sleeve: When not in use, keep the notebook in a dust jacket or a padded sleeve. Store it on a shelf away from direct sunlight, humidity, and heavy objects that could dent the cover. Common mistake: stacking books on top of the notebook can leave permanent impressions on the soft cover.
- Handle with clean, dry hands: Oils and dirt from hands can gradually stain the cover and dull the print. Wash and dry your hands before writing or flipping through the notebook. Checkpoint: if you notice smudges, clean the cover immediately before they set.
