Quick Answer

If you want the definitive lore companion, start with Diablo: Book of Lorath. For a fun side read, grab Diablo: Drinks, Potions, and Elixirs; for a visual origin story, pick Diablo: Legends of the Barbarian.

What Each Book Offers

Diablo: Book of Lorath is a comprehensive lore guide presented as an in-world artifact from the Horadric Order. It's ideal for players who want to understand the deep history of Sanctuary and the eternal conflict between Heaven and Hell.

Diablo: Drinks, Potions, and Elixirs is the official cocktail book inspired by the game. It's more about recreating themed drinks and provisions than diving into lore, making it a great conversation piece for gatherings.

Diablo: Legends of the Barbarian is an original graphic novel that tells the story of Bul-Kathos, the progenitor of the Barbarian class. It's a self-contained narrative that expands the lore through visual storytelling.

Trade-Offs to Consider

The Book of Lorath is the most lore-heavy, but it's also the most expensive at $21.00. If you're on a budget, the graphic novel at $12.60 offers a shorter, more affordable entry point, though it focuses on one character's tale.

The cocktail book is the lightest on lore but the most interactive. If you enjoy hosting or collecting themed merchandise, it offers a unique experience that the other two don't. However, if you're strictly after story depth, you might find it less satisfying.

How to Decide

  • Choose Book of Lorath if: You want the most comprehensive lore guide and don't mind spending a bit more. It's the best Diablo reading for understanding the world. If you're new to the lore, start here.
  • Choose Drinks, Potions, and Elixirs if: You enjoy themed merchandise and want a book that's fun to use for parties or casual browsing. It's less about lore and more about experience.
  • Choose Legends of the Barbarian if: You prefer visual storytelling and want a quick, affordable read focused on a single character's origin. It's a great entry point for graphic novel fans. Pair it with Book of Lorath for a fuller picture.
