Quick answer

Use the XreArt DIY Tool Kit for iPhone X to disassemble your old phone and mount its components in a frame for a striking piece of wall art.

What you need before you start

The kit includes all the tools and mounting hardware, but you must supply your own iPhone X. Make sure the phone is fully discharged before beginning to avoid any electrical risk during disassembly.

Work on a clean, well-lit surface. A magnetic mat helps keep tiny screws organized, though the kit does not include one.

Step-by-step assembly guide

  1. Remove the display: Use the included pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two screws next to the Lightning port. Apply suction to the lower edge of the screen and gently lift the display assembly. Be careful not to tear the display cables. Keep track of screws by screw length—mixing them up can strip the threads.
  2. Disconnect the battery: Use the nylon spudger to disconnect the battery connector from the logic board. This step is critical to avoid short circuits during the rest of the teardown. Always disconnect the battery first, even if you're not removing it immediately.
  3. Remove the logic board and other components: Unclip the display and front camera cables, then remove the screws securing the logic board. Lift the board out along with the rear camera module. Remove the battery using the pull tabs (or gentle prying if they break). If a pull tab snaps, use a plastic card to gently pry the battery—never use a metal tool.
  4. Arrange components in the frame: Position the logic board, battery, cameras, and other parts on the adhesive backing inside the frame. Follow the included layout guide for a balanced look, but feel free to arrange them creatively. Press each component firmly for 10 seconds to ensure it stays in place over time.
  5. Mount and display the frame: Snap the frame cover into place. Attach the wall mount bracket to the back, then hang it on a screw or nail. Step back and admire your work. Use a level to make sure the frame hangs straight—the asymmetrical component layout can trick your eye.
