Quick answer
Assemble your Evangelion jigsaw puzzle efficiently by sorting pieces by color and edge, building the frame first, and working inward section by section.
Why assembly order matters
The Evangelion jigsaw puzzle features iconic artwork with distinct color zones, from the purple and green of the EVA units to the reds and oranges of the Angels. Starting with the frame gives you a clear boundary, while sorting by color lets you tackle manageable chunks without getting overwhelmed. This approach reduces frustration and helps you see progress faster.
Preserving the artwork
Once assembled, you'll want to keep the puzzle intact for display or future reassembly. The puzzle is made from standard cardboard, so handling the edges carefully prevents fraying. If you plan to glue it, use a puzzle-specific adhesive that dries clear and doesn't warp the pieces. Alternatively, store it flat in a large zip bag or between foam boards to protect the artwork.
Step-by-step assembly guide
- Sort pieces by edge and color: Separate all edge pieces (straight sides) into one pile. Then group the remaining pieces by dominant color: purples, greens, reds, oranges, and neutrals. This makes finding the right piece much faster. Check: Are your edge pieces truly separate? A piece with one straight side is an edge piece.
- Build the border frame: Assemble the edge pieces into the full frame of the puzzle. This gives you a defined workspace and prevents pieces from sliding off the table. Refer to the box art to match corner positions. Check: Does the frame sit flat? If pieces are forced, you may have a wrong fit.
- Assemble color zones inward: Pick one color group (e.g., purple for the EVA unit) and fill in that section within the frame. Work from the border inward. Repeat for each color group until the puzzle is complete. Check: Are you using the box art as reference? It helps confirm piece placement for complex areas.
