Quick Answer
For a powerful desktop amp that drives demanding headphones, choose the FiiO GIGAS 1. If you need a portable Class-A amp for on-the-go listening with your Astell&Kern player, the AK PA10 is the better fit.
Power vs Portability
The FiiO GIGAS 1 is a desktop-focused amp with up to 4600mW balanced output, designed to drive a wide range of IEMs and full-size headphones. The Astell&Kern PA10 is a portable Class-A amp, prioritizing natural, spacious sound in a compact form.
If you listen mostly at a desk with power-hungry headphones, the GIGAS 1's high output is a clear advantage. If you need an amp that travels with you, the PA10's portability wins.
Sound Character and Amp Class
Class-A amplifiers are known for their linear, warm sound, and the AK PA10 delivers that signature in a portable package. The GIGAS 1 uses a discrete Class AB transistor circuit, which balances efficiency and sound quality, offering a different tonal character.
Your preference for Class-A warmth versus Class AB efficiency will influence your choice, but both are respected designs.
Trade-Offs to Consider
- Power Output: The GIGAS 1 offers up to 4600mW balanced output, ideal for power-hungry headphones. The PA10, being portable, likely has lower output but focuses on Class-A sound quality. If your headphones are hard to drive, prioritize the GIGAS 1.
- Portability: The PA10 is designed for portability, making it easy to carry with your Astell&Kern player. The GIGAS 1 is a desktop unit, best left on your desk. If you listen on the go, the PA10 is the practical choice.
- Sound Character: The PA10's Class-A design delivers a natural, spacious analog sound. The GIGAS 1's Class AB circuit offers a different balance of efficiency and tone. Consider your preferred sound signature before deciding.
