Quick answer
For tight headshots or product close-ups, the 1x2 diffuser gives precise control. For full-body or group shots, the 1x3 panel provides more even coverage.
Size and coverage trade-offs
The 1x2 panel is compact and easy to position close to your subject without blocking your camera frame. It works well for single subjects or small products where you want to feather the light.
The 1x3 panel offers a wider spread, making it better for broader shots. Its extra length helps wrap light around the subject, reducing harsh shadows on larger areas.
Two-layer diffusion performance
Both sizes use the same double-layer 2-Stop Diffusion fabric, so the light quality is consistent. The choice is purely about physical coverage and how the panel fits into your lighting setup.
Because both panels reduce output by approximately 2 stops, you don't need to adjust exposure differently between sizes. Your exposure settings remain the same regardless of which size you pick.
How to choose your diffuser size
- Subject distance: If your subject is within 3 feet of the diffuser, the 1x2 panel provides enough spread and keeps the light source small enough to control falloff.
- Subject size: For a single headshot or product, the 1x2 is sufficient. For a half-body, full-body, or two-person shot, move up to the 1x3. The 1x3 panel can also be used horizontally for wider group shots.
- Lighting pattern: Use the 1x2 for a more directional, feathered light that wraps only part of the face. Use the 1x3 for a broader, more even wrap that fills the entire subject.
