Quick answer

The Fulton's Witching Hour skateboard deck is both a functional skateboard and a collectible art piece, thanks to its hand-screened artwork by Todd Bratrud and production by legendary printer Chicken Deck.

Why the line between art and apparel blurs

The deck was illustrated by Todd Bratrud for Brad Fulton to celebrate the release of Fulton's Witching Hour Playing Cards. This collaboration elevates the deck beyond typical apparel, making it a limited-edition art object.

The 12-color hand screen printing by Chicken Deck, who has printed iconic skateboards for over 40 years, adds significant collectible value. However, the deck remains a fully functional skateboard, so it can be ridden or displayed.

Verdicts on common claims

  • Claim: It's just a skateboard deck: Verdict: False. While it is a functional skateboard, the hand-screened artwork by Todd Bratrud and production by Chicken Deck make it a collectible art piece.
  • Claim: It's only for display: Verdict: False. The deck is a fully functional skateboard and can be ridden. However, its collectible value may encourage display over use. Consider your intent: ride it or frame it.
