Quick answer
If you want a bold, whimsical centerpiece with a single striking animal, choose the Gaudy Cougar 150. If you prefer multiple detailed birds in a lush setting, the Tropical Birds 160 offers more visual variety. Both are small wooden puzzles that build quickly and make excellent gifts.
What sets these two puzzles apart
The Gaudy Cougar 150 and Tropical Birds 160 share a similar piece count and wooden construction, but their subjects and visual density differ significantly. The cougar puzzle focuses on one rainbow-hued animal, making it easier to sort by color and shape. The tropical birds puzzle features two main birds (a macaw and a toucan) plus flowers and foliage, which adds more small color zones and subtle transitions.
For a relaxed evening build, the cougar’s broad color blocks let you progress quickly. The birds puzzle demands a bit more attention to detail, especially around the beaks and leaves. Neither puzzle is difficult, but the birds version will keep you engaged a few minutes longer.
Trade-offs to consider
- Subject focus: Gaudy Cougar is a single, bold animal. Tropical Birds has two birds plus flowers. Cougar is simpler; birds offer more variety.
- Color complexity: Cougar uses large rainbow bands. Birds uses smaller patches of green, blue, red, and yellow. Cougar is easier to sort; birds require closer attention.
- Build time: Both are under 200 pieces, but the birds puzzle typically takes 20-30% longer due to smaller color zones. Cougar for a quick session; birds for a slightly longer unwind.
