Quick Answer
Choose the MG 1/100 Geara Doga if you want a larger, more detailed centerpiece for your shelf. Pick the HGUC 1/144 if you prefer a more affordable, space-friendly build that still captures the iconic Neo Zeon design.
Scale and Presence
The most obvious difference is size. The MG 1/100 stands noticeably taller and heavier on a display shelf, making it a natural focal point. The HGUC 1/144 fits easily into a mixed-grade collection and pairs well with other 1/144 kits from Char's Counterattack.
Build Complexity and Detail
Master Grade kits typically include more inner frame work, panel lines, and surface detail. The MG Geara Doga offers a fully articulated inner frame and interchangeable head parts. The HGUC version simplifies the build with fewer parts, making it a quicker weekend project, though it still includes a mono eye that can look left or right.
Price and Value
At a catalog price of USD 15.25, the HGUC is an entry-level investment. The MG costs USD 41.58, which is more than double but still reasonable for the size and detail. Both are priced well below their catalog comparison prices, so you get a good deal either way.
Key Trade-offs
- Size and Display Impact: MG 1/100 gives you a larger, more imposing shelf presence. HGUC 1/144 is easier to fit into crowded displays or pair with other 1/144 kits.
- Build Time and Complexity: MG requires more time and patience with inner frame assembly and more parts. HGUC is a faster, simpler build suitable for beginners or a quick project.
- Cost and Value: HGUC at USD 15.25 is a low-risk entry point. MG at USD 41.58 costs more but delivers a bigger, more detailed model. Both are well below their original catalog prices. If budget is tight, the HGUC gives you the same iconic design for a fraction of the cost.
