Quick Answer
The Hate: CMON Comic Book Volume 2 Tyrant Edition Plus Promos adds a graphic novel, a new Tyrant figure, a Shaktaar Mercenary, and two Figure Cards to your Hate board game, expanding the lore and offering new in-game options.
Why This Expansion Matters for Hate Players
If you already own the Hate base game, you know the world is harsh and unforgiving. The comic book supplement isn't just a lore piece—it introduces tangible gameplay elements that change how you approach battles. The new Tyrant character gives you a different playstyle, while the Shaktaar Mercenary adds a wildcard ally.
Unlike a standard expansion box, this is a Kickstarter supplement. That means it was originally offered only to backers, making it a rarer find now. It requires the base Hate game to use, so if you're new, grab the core set first.
One trade-off: the graphic novel is mostly for flavor. It deepens the story but doesn't directly affect rules. If you're purely after competitive upgrades, you might prefer a pure gameplay expansion.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use this supplement without the base Hate game?
No. The supplement requires the Hate board game (sold separately) to play. All components are add-ons for the core system.
What does the Tyrant Edition include?
It includes a graphic novel (comic book volume 2), one Tyrant figure, one Shaktaar Mercenary figure, and two Figure Cards. The figures are used in the base game with their own abilities.
Is this item a Kickstarter exclusive?
Yes, this is a Kickstarter Special, originally offered only during the campaign. It may be harder to find at retail. The copy sold on The Game Steward is a sealed Kickstarter edition with promos. Check the listing for condition notes; these supplements are limited-run items.
Does the graphic novel include new game rules?
The graphic novel is primarily story content. The gameplay additions come from the Tyrant and Mercenary figures, which have their own cards. You don't need to read the comic to play with the new pieces.
How does the Shaktaar Mercenary work?
The Shaktaar is a mercenary figure you can add to your forces. Like other mercenary units in Hate, it provides a temporary ally with special abilities. The included Figure Card spells out its stats and effects.
