Quick answer
Assembly takes about 10 minutes with no tools required. Focus on locking the frame, attaching the mattress pad, and securing the bedside strap before use.
What you need before starting
Clear a flat, open area on the floor. The Bassinet & Bedside Sleeper comes with the frame, mattress pad, fitted sheet, and a bedside strap. No screwdriver or Allen wrench is needed—all connections are push-to-lock.
Check that you have the correct mattress pad. This model uses the same Wovenaire® technology as Newton Baby’s crib mattress, so the pad is ultra-breathable and fully washable. If the pad feels stiff out of the box, it will soften after the first wash.
Assembly steps
- Step 1: Unfold and lock the frame legs: Lay the frame on its side and pull each leg outward until you hear a click. The legs are color-coded or numbered; match them to the corresponding slots on the base. A common mistake is not pushing the leg fully into the locked position, which can cause wobbling. Test each leg by gently shaking the frame after locking.
- Step 2: Attach the mattress pad: Place the Wovenaire® mattress pad inside the frame with the smooth side facing up. Press down around the edges so it sits flush against the frame walls. The pad is larger than the frame—tuck any excess fabric under the pad, not over the sides, to maintain a flat sleep surface. Run your hand over the pad to ensure no gaps between pad and frame.
- Step 3: Secure the bedside strap (if using as a bedside sleeper): Loop the strap around the leg of your adult bed, then thread it through the buckle on the bassinet frame. Tighten until the bassinet sits flush against the mattress edge. A common error is leaving slack, which creates a gap where baby could roll. For standalone use, skip this step and ensure all four legs are locked. After tightening, push the bassinet away from the bed—it should not move more than 1 inch.
- Step 4: Fit the sheet and final check: Stretch the fitted sheet over the mattress pad. The sheet should be snug with no loose fabric. Check that the bassinet is on a firm, level surface and that all locking joints are engaged. If the bassinet rocks or tilts, recheck leg locks and floor surface. Place a hand on the center and press down firmly—the bassinet should not collapse or shift.
