Quick Answer
Use SodaStream MUG Root Beer drink mix with your sparkling water maker for a quick, caffeine-free root beer at home.
Why Use the MUG Root Beer Drink Mix?
The MUG Root Beer drink mix is made exclusively for SodaStream, so it's designed to dissolve easily and produce the signature creamy foam. It's caffeine-free, making it suitable for any time of day.
Carbonation Tips for Best Results
For a root beer that tastes like the original, carbonate your water fully before adding the syrup. Under-carbonation can make the drink feel flat, while over-carbonation may cause excessive fizz when you add the mix.
Steps to Make MUG Root Beer with SodaStream
- Chill Your Carbonating Bottle: Fill the SodaStream carbonating bottle with cold water and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Cold water holds carbonation better and reduces foaming. Using room-temperature water can lead to weak carbonation and excess foam.
- Carbonate the Water: Attach the bottle to your SodaStream machine and carbonate according to your model's instructions. Typically, press the button 3–5 times for a strong fizz. Stop pressing when you hear the machine release pressure—over-carbonating can cause the bottle to overflow when you add the mix.
- Add the MUG Root Beer Drink Mix: Remove the bottle from the machine, tilt it slightly, and pour in the recommended amount of MUG Root Beer drink mix (usually about 2 tablespoons per liter). Gently swirl the bottle to mix—do not shake. Shaking the bottle after adding the syrup can cause a sudden eruption of foam.
- Serve Immediately or Refrigerate: Pour the root beer into a glass over ice if desired. For best flavor, drink within a few hours. You can store the mixed soda in the refrigerator for up to 2 days, but carbonation will fade. The creamy foam is best enjoyed fresh; storing overnight reduces the signature head.
